 DOWNPASS - the movie

A secure number

Trust is good, control is better.

Each individual sealed product filled with down and feathers, which have been audited to the DOWNPASS standard, can be traced back through an individualized verification number. This number can be found on the DOWNPASS label. It consists of one letter and 7 or 8 digits. This combination is assigned to a manufacturer. Down and feathers start their journey

Down and feathers which provide a feel-good climate as filling material in bedding, outdoor equipment or fashionable clothing, come from various areas of origin.
Asia and Europe are the main sourcing areas. Did you know that every manufacturer has his own individual requirements for how warm and lightweight his product should be?
Then the feather and down specialist compose these individual blends. Therefore to ensure that they come from ethically correct sources, bags with DOWNPASS-goods are individually labelled. This is the way to make sure that what comes together, also belongs together.

On-site inspections

Documents that prove the origin of down and feathers are important. On-site inspections at farms and plants are essential.
Audits according to the Zero-Tolerance-Standard DOWNPASS include control visits of the duck and goose farms. Auditors from independent certification organizations monitor the rearing conditions and keeping of the animals several times a year with announced and unannounced inspections. Whether China, Hungary, France, Poland or other countries of origin – the inspections take place worldwide.

Surveillance – guaranteed

What does it mean when I buy a product with the DOWNPASS label?

For companies audited according to DOWNPASS

... animal welfare when processing animal components and transparency in supply chains are a key concern.
They want to make sure that all the products they trade meet the highest ethical standards.

That's why they opted for a zero tolerance standard audit.

Specifically, this means that customers can be sure that they will not find material from live plucking or from foie gras production in bedding, clothing or outdoor equipment.
The rearing of the animals must be controlled permanently by independent third parties - even without notice.

At DOWNPASS, they appreciate that in addition to these animal welfare criteria, product quality is also monitored by testing laboratories.

Manufacturers - Certified

Who is audited?

A DOWNPASS certification is valid for 2 years.
After the initial audit, ongoing controls are carried out during the year
of the farms, wholesalers and producers.
At the end of the 2 years, the companies must be re-audited.
An up-to-date overview of the manufacturers who have a valid audit can be found here.
